Warhammer 40k 2000 point Chapter Approved 2022 GT Mission Battle Report: Ynnari vs Necrons

Overview

Starting 2022 off with a bang at MiniWarGaming! We had the chance to get games in with Josh and his Custodes over at the MWG YouTube Channel, Luka and his Space Wolves, Skari and his Black Templar (MWG Vault and SkaredCast Patreon), and John the ‘Cron here at GDFC!

Both John and myself really enjoy playing our respective armies, despite the underwhelming nature of our current armies. We both lean into the strengths of our faction and our lists are built in a similar fashion around some hard hitting hammer units (Lychguard vs Incubi).

An epic show down, Yncarne takes on Void Dragon as ancient foes clash on the battlefield!

We played Mission 11 out of the Chapter Approved 2022 GT Mission Pack, Tear Down Their Icons.

Overall, this list is designed around Till the Last, Retrieve Nachmund Data, and can flex into a few other secondaries such as Psychic Interrogation. The list compliments my conservative playstyle and because Ynnari are not world beaters, each match is typically won or lost by a few points with most of my victories coming in the mid-to-high 70s or low 80s. There are some cool tricks in the list that revolve around the timely demise of my Raiders (Incubi come out with the Yncarne Summoned by Death just behind). The list has Just enough shooting to take out a thing each turn but I constantly make the mistake of overestimating my damage output since I’m used to running Hornets and Dark Lances in Craftworld and Drukhari armies respectively.

John’s army has a lot of unique tools that provide significant board control and pressure. The meat and potatoes of the list are really the Lychguard. They provide the pressure, board control, offense and defense that allow his other units to score points. Tools such as the Hexmark, Flayed Ones, Scarabs, and the Dragon are all used expertly in John’s list and I really enjoyed facing off against John and his Necrons!

Closing Thoughts

It was a blast to spend a week with the blokes over at MiniWarGaming, and especially enjoyed my time with Skari and John the ‘Cron. We are excited to be back up and running now that we have multiple jabs of good stuff that helps against the Covid and are ramping back up to put out regular batreps, podcasts, and are hosting monthly events in the Chicagoland area!
